Louis Vuitton dressed in upholstery from Gudbrandsdalens Uldvarefabrik

Louis Vuitton

Under Milan Furniture Fair som gikk av stabelen i Milano 2022 kunne man se lekre møbler fra Louis Vuitton sin "Objet Nomades" kolleksjon kledd i ulltekstil fra Gudbrandsdalens Uldvarefabrik.

During the Milan Furniture Fair which started in 2022 in Milan, you could see gorgeous furniture from Louis Vuitton's "Objet Nomades" collection dressed in wool textiles from Gudbrandsdalens Uldvarefabrik.

The exhibition, which was shown at Garage Traversi, presented pieces from 14 designers spanning a decade. The "Objets Nomades" collection blends the respective designer's creativity with Louis Vuitton's "Art of Travel" philosophy.

The textiles shown are the elastic wool textile Prinsdal (Design: GU Design Team / Pia Bjørnstad) in specially developed colors for Louis Vuitton. The superstretch in Prinsdal makes it possible to stretch the fabric on furniture so that the shapes can really be highlighted.

In addition, the wool textile Odal was shown (Design: GU Design Team / Per Bjørnsen / Norway Says). Odal is an innovative fabric with a three-dimensionality that gives the full effect of the pattern.

In the 1960s, the recently deceased Paulin created a series of designs for experimental sofas that never materialized due to financial problems. The creative director of Louis Vuitton chose to use the fabric "Prinsdal" from GU when they were to realize Pierre Paulin's futuristic sofa design. When the French luxury brand was to recreate the 18 sofas, it was the model with Gu´s blue, elastic wool fabric that was featured on the front page when Wallpaper mentioned the exhibition in January 2015.

The fabric is a wool stretch in mohair and wool which, due to its unique combination of construction and materials, is so elastic that you can actually pull a ball with it. The fabric fits beautifully around double-curved and organic shapes. Pia Bjørnstad, who designed "Prinsdal", received the award "Merket for good design" for the upholstery fabric, and the wool fabric is mentioned on a number of international design blogs.
