Odal

Odal is an innovative duo-coloured fabric where the contrast in colour enhances the three dimensionality of the fabric, complementing the pattern. The fabric has strong tactile qualities through a combination of rough surface and the sober and graphic expression of the pattern. Only available for delivery to Norwegian addresses.

The Norwegian Design Council's jury statement:

Møbelgruppen Hal with the specially designed furniture fabric Odal is a brave and forward-looking venture within the Norwegian furniture industry. A successful triangular collaboration between an established furniture manufacturer, a traditional furniture fabric manufacturer and young furniture designers has resulted in a fresh and innovative product. The expertise of the various actors has raised the final product and given the furniture a clear visual and textile identity. The furniture is simple, monumental and distinctive with a clear and clean form. Both the chair and the sofa have a strong identity, and are neutral and cheeky at the same time. The furniture manufacturer is stretching far in terms of form towards a renewal of its profile. The two-tone fabrics are particularly successful because the contrasting color highlights the fabric's three-dimensionality and gives the full effect of the pattern. The fabric has a high tactile quality through its combination of roughness in the surface and the sober, graphic expression of the pattern. The upholstery work is convincingly well done.
