Colour Palette
Inspiration
During the process of creating Mandal it was important for us to create a color palette and a versatile collection with longevity, which together provide endless possibilities to play with and combine the different tones and shades with each other. By using the colors in a variety of ways, lively and airy spaces and atmospheres are created, says designer and product designer Ragnhild Nordhagen.
The colors we surround ourselves with affect us humans very much, they tell a story and they create a mood. The development of Mandal has taken three years to achieve the correct technical characteristics and the right appearance. One of the most challenging aspects of the preparation of this collection was to cut 700 variations into 46 selected colours, in close collaboration with our dye-master Vidar Lilleespe and surface designer and color expert, Christiane Müller.
46 vakre farger med uendelige muligheter
Mandal is a collection with a unique color principle where white and black contrasting threads create different shades of the same colours. - By weaving the colors together with these two different contrasting colours, you create these beautiful color scales from the bright and light, underpinned by the darker undertones, says Ragnhild.
Technical qualities
We call Mandal a "cool wool", because it is crisp, light and fresh. In addition, it is both hard-wearing and enduring, created so that furniture and textiles have a long life. - Mandal as a textile product has many advantages. The quality is lighter and flatter and will thus be a smart approach to the international market which is not so used to wool, explains Ragnhild.
Mandal has 100,000 in Martindale and is certified with the Rattmerket, IMO and EU Ecolabel.
