Hallingdal 65

Hallingdal was launched in 1965 as a collaboration between Nanna Ditzel, Gudbrandsdalens Uldvarefabrik and Halling-Kock Design Center. The classic design suits any environment, and has been a favorite of designers and architects for half a century. Hallingdal has been in continuous production in the factory in Lillehammer since the launch, and almost 5.5 million meters have gone via the factory's loading ramp to small and large projects all over the world. Gudbrandsdalens Uldvarefabrik supplies Hallingdal in Norway, while Kvadrat is a distributor of Hallingdal outside Norway.

Inspiration

The Danish designer Nanna Ditzel (1923-2005) has been referred to as "The Grand Old Lady of Danish Design" - and with good reason. Several icons are signed by her hand, among them The Hanging Egg Chair, Trinidad Chair and the children's furniture Trissen. What remains as perhaps her greatest success is the upholstery fabric Hallingdal. The design was created as a collaborative project between Nanna Ditzel, Halling-Koch Designcenter and Gudbrandsdalens Uldvarefabrik AS in 1965.

The classic design suits any environment, and has been a favorite of designers and architects for half a century. Kvadrat describes in its publication Hallingdal 65 how the search for the right manufacturer went through Europe in a 2-seater MG sports car.

The choice fell on Gudbrandsdalens Uldvarefabrik because the factory, with all processes in its own house, had a unique opportunity to ensure quality at all stages. Hallingdal has been in continuous production in the factory in Lillehammer since the launch, and almost 5.5 million meters have gone via the factory's loading ramp to small and large projects all over the world. With that much material, you could make a bridge from Hallingdal across the Atlantic Ocean from London to New York. A true design icon!

The furniture fabric was awarded the Danish Design Center's Classic Award in October 2001 and the Classic Award to Norwegian Industry in 2023. The field of application for Hallingdal is wide, used both in private furnishings and in the public sector, where special demands are made for high wear resistance.

In 2012, Hallingdal was launched in a new uniform with 22 new colours. 18 of these are original colors from the first Hallingdal collection in 1965. In addition, 36 colors from the previous Hallingdal collection have been carried over. Together, these make up the Hallingdal 65 collection, which has brought the classic to new heights almost half a century after its first launch.

Technical characteristics

Hallingdal is made of 70% wool and 30% viscose, a very advantageous combination where wool's unique properties and durability are preserved while the viscose gives depth and brilliance to the colours. The quality is fibre-dyed, which reinforces and highlights Hallingdal's rich texture. Both warp and weft are carded yarns twisted together by a thick and a thin thread, which creates a beautiful play. One component is sloppy. Hallingdal has a balanced ratio between warp and weft, which gives a harmonious appearance.

Hallingdal has 100,000 in Martindale, is IMO certified and meets the fire requirement Crib 5 without the use of chemicals. Hallingdal is also certified according to the requirements of the EU Ecolabel (EU Blomsten), which guarantees:

• Limited use of environmentally harmful substances
• Limited substances harmful to health
• Reduced water and air pollution
