Louis Vuitton, Tapis-Siege

The creative director of Louis Vuitton chose to use the fabric Prinsdal from Gudbrandsdalens Uldvarefabrik AS when they realized the futuristic sofa design of Pierre Paulin.

In the 1960's, the recently deceased Paulin made numerous designs for experimental sofas that never materialized due to financial problems. When the French luxury brand recreated the 18 sofas, it was the model with Gudbrandsdalens Uldvarefabrik AS' blue, elastic fabric that was highlighted on the front page, when Wallpaper featured the exhibition in January 2015. The fabric is a wool-stretch in mohair, with wool that, because of its unique combination of design and materials, is so elastic that you can actually stretch a ball with it. The fabric blends beautifully around double curved and organic forms. Pia Bjørnstad, who designed Prinsdal, received the Award for Design Excellence for furniture fabric, and it has been featured on numerous international design blogs.
